Real Bread. Real Lives.

The Bread Maker is a social enterprise that gives opportunities to adults with learning disabilities. We help people who would find it difficult to get a job or training in most ordinary businesses. Our Purpose is our magic ingredient – we’re a serious food business, making the best bread in town!

Building better lives by making great bread.

Dr Denis Durno had the vision to create a fully inclusive charity where adults with learning disabilities could show their abilities through baking and hospitality (our Apprentices). From the day we opened our doors on 1st December 2006 the charity has gone from strength to strength. We supply some of Aberdeen's best loved bread to top restaurants, coffee shops and retail outlets around the city and shire.

Serious about bread.

Our team of apprentices are at the heart of our business and are foremost in everything we do.

Meaningful employment enhances the lives of our apprentices equipping them with essential life skills. We have so many uplifting stories to tell!

Share our Vision.

We believe when we help disadvantaged or vulnerable people to pursue a career, it’s not just good for them, but better for society, too.

We make the tastiest bread, everyone can enjoy!

Share with Friends.

Breaking bread with friends is a symbol of community that goes back thousands of years. Buy one of our loaves, get your pals around, tell them the story of The Bread Maker, and enjoy.
